The Wild Wicklow Tour (Ireland Part 2)

As a TBEX attendee I was fortunate enough to score a spot on a fabulous Wild Wicklow Tour around Glendalough in Ireland. Over the years I’ve found that guided tours are generally hit or miss – they’re either dry, painful and awkward or they’re a real treat and you’re left wanting more. The Wild Wicklow Tour definitely hit a home run because I don’t think I’ve ever laughed as hard on a tour in my entire life. Our guide, who also happens to be the owner of the company, had a phenomenal sense of humor and was a joy to talk to. I’m pretty sure I would take the tour again the next time I’m in Ireland! And if I’m considering taking the same tour twice, it has to be good.

The tour is a perfect day-trip from Dublin, and lasts from 9am to about 5:30, and the bus picks you up from various spots in Dublin, and follows this itinerary:

- Coastal drive past DunLaoghaire Harbour, Dalkey and Killiney, home to celebrities like Bono (oh my god, swoon!)

- Stop for coffee and delicious morning treats at Avoca Handweavers,
a cafe overlooking a gorgeous garden

- Guided tour around Glendalough’s 6th Century monastic settlement and a walk to the Upper Lake

- Lunch in a traditional Irish pub with live music

- Stops at Sally Gap which was the location for shooting Excalibur, Braveheart, and P.S. I Love You

- Complimentary tasting of Jameson Whiskey

Here’s a look at some of my favorite photos from this day in Ireland:

I’ll admit that the scenery was breathtaking on its own, and would be just as stunning if you rented a car and did a self-guided tour around the area. However, this tour is loaded with history and fun facts that add so much to the experience, and the guide had the entire bus laughing over and over again. The bar has been set so high by this tour, I honestly worry I won’t find another that lives up to this one!

**As a TBEX blogger I did not pay for the tour myself, but that did not affect my impression of the tour in any way, nor was I required to write a post on it. This is my 100% honest opinion, as always.**

Have you ever taken a tour that you really loved? Share it with me so I can check it out!! :)
